An email from my dad - undoubtedly one of the nicest I have ever received
I have run a lot of races and climbed some mountains, but in 56 years I have never run a ½ Marathon – not even close. Thanks for setting the goal, inviting me, running the final distance training run, and running the race. I would not have done it without you – I had not even thought about it until you came up with the idea.
In my experience happiness and success in life comes to people who invest in themselves by settling goals, putting in the effort and having the focus to achieve those goals, and then continuing to move forward with interesting and exciting new goals. Other people can advise you and support you in your efforts, but in the end what works is your commitment to what you think is worthy and important. You clearly operate this way, not only when it comes to ½ Marathon’s but across your life. It is a trait that has and I predict will continue to serve you well.
Apologies for my lack of posting this week, but things have been crazy! I’m exhausted and heading to bed, but just a few things to share:
-The Hunger Games books are PHENOMENAL. Working my way through the first one on my Kindle right now and cannot put it down. Must finish before I see the movie.
-As of today, the GMAT has taken over my life. I was seriously distressed by my score on the diagnostic exam, although my teach seemed to think it was good, so I have a ton of work to do. See you all in June.
-My new job is going well. I have a lot to learn, but I think it’s going to be so much fun!
-My half marathon is in 4 days. 4 DAYS!!!! Yikes. I did a 10 mile run on Saturday and felt pretty good so I’m psyched for race day. It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend.
Well sissy and I just had the most marvelous Dallas weekend! It did rain the whole day and night Saturday, but the sun came out Sunday afternoon and Monday was one of the most gorgeous days I’ve seen in a while. I’d say we made the most of her spring break.
We went back to Union Bear and made friends with the bartenders. Scored this pretty awesome straw.
Did some serious damage at the outlets in Allen. I finally found a pair of nude pumps and sissy bought some super sexy gold heels.
Pregamed/went out like we were in college. Well…I guess she is in college, but it was pretty impressive for me. We met many many interesting people including a group already eight bars into their very serious game of pub golf.
Had Yumilicious for lunch. I mean, why not?
Drank beeritas outside at the Katy Trail Ice House.
And lots of other fun sistery stuff. There truly is nothing like a sister. Especially mine :)
Good thing I’m going home this weekend so I’ll see her, and the rest of the fam, in just a couple days!
I know I don’t talk about my job a whole lot here, but to fill you in, for the last two and a half years I have worked in the Revenue Management department at a large airline. I’ve had several different positions within the department and have found it to be the perfect place to start my career. I have worked with an incredibly smart and supportive group of people and I have learned something new every single day, which has made going to work feel worthwhile.
Tomorrow, I embark on a new adventure in the Corporate Communications department. More specifically, I will be joining the newly formed Social Media team and I could not possibly be more excited. Social media has been a personal interest of mine for quite a while and the thought of it being my job is still somewhat surreal at this point. Before this opportunity came along, I had applied for a few other positions, none of which worked out. I was so disappointed at the time and was sure that I wouldn’t find anything else that interested me as much. How wrong I was. I mentioned last week that I’m a true believer in the “everything happens for a reason” idea, and this whole job search has really affirmed that belief. I didn’t get those other jobs because my dream job was just around the corner even though I didn’t know it yet.
I am thrilled to be joining a growing team in a field that is constantly and quickly evolving. It is going to be very different than my last job, but I am looking forward to a change. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!
